Quick Makeup Tips

As part of the new year you might of made the New Year’s Resolution to experiment a little more with makeup.  You also might be a little unsure of what you should be doing like I often am.  Below are some quick makeup tips to help you with your New Year’s Resolution.

  • Wash your face: Before applying makeup in the morning, wash your face so you’ll be able to start with a fresh canvas. Use a cleanser or simply splash lukewarm water on your face a few times to wash away any debris on your skin. Pat it dry gently with a soft towel.
  • Apply a moisturizer: The last step before applying makeup is putting on some moisturizing lotion. This will help your makeup go on more easily and create a better final look. Choose a good face moisturizer that works with your skin type. Massage it gently all over your face. Don’t forget your eyelids, lips, and nose.
  • Choose a foundation that works with your skin type and matches your coloring: Liquid foundation is a fine choice for many types of skin. You can also use tinted moisturizer or BB cream. If your skin is on the oily side, you might want to consider compact or powder ofoundation.
  • Apply concealer: Choose a concealer that matches your skin tone – or, if you have dark under-eye circles, go one shade lighter. Apply a light amount of concealer using either a concealer brush or your finger by dabbing it under your eyes and gently blending it in.
  • Apply powder: Choose a powder that matches your skin tone. Use a powder brush (a large, fluffy brush that will apply the powder evenly) to apply the powder to your face in a circular motion.
  • Apply blush: Choose a pink-toned blush that brings out the best in your facial coloring. Swirl a blush brush in the container, smile, and apply it to the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion.
  • Apply eyeshadow: Choose a neutral shadow pallet for a simple, everyday look. Brown, gold, grey, and blue tones are all good choices, depending on your eye color
  • Apply eyeliner: Choose a charcoal, navy, or brown eyeliner to use during the day – save your black eyeliner for nighttime wear.
  • Apply eyeshadow: Choose a neutral shadow pallet for a simple, everyday look. Brown, gold, grey, and blue tones are all good choices, depending on your eye color
  • Apply mascara: Apply one coat of mascara on both your upper and lower lashes. Insert the brush at the base of your lashes and sweep outward
  • Apply lip color: Use a pink or neutral-colored lipstick or lip gloss to finish your everyday look.

Simple Treasures for Sale New Years Resolutions

As I am sure you are doing this time a year I am doing some planning for the new year.   I have come up with the following New Years Business Resolutions that I am going to do my best to see through.

1.  Work on lowering shipping prices
I understand that no one likes to pay shipping.  I myself find it difficult to pay shipping on things I order online.I pledge to do my best to lower my cost on the shipping I pay so that I can pass the savings onto you.  Hopefully in the end I would like to offer free shipping to everyone and still keep the prices low on the products.

2.  Work on quality of photos for website
I am most certainly not  a professional photographer.   I have learned a little and hopefully will expand on what I have learned to improve the quality of the photos on the website.

3.  Work on expanding makeup lines
I would like to expand on the items I sell in the makeup section of the website.  From time to time I may be asking for everyone’s input in order to keep the options fresh and so that there is something for everyone.

4.  Work on expanding products for men
While working with Bradley University it was pointed out several times that the website doesn’t offer enough items for men.   I plan on working towards expanding that section of the website as well.   From time to time I may be asking for everyone’s input on different ideas of what everyone would like to see.

I am always open to anyone’s input so if there is something you would like to see let me know and I will see what I can do to accommodate you.

Year End Reflection

As I am sure everyone has noticed 2019 has been a very busy and active year for Simple Treasures.   We have done our best to but our best foot forward and stay true to our core values.

  1. A commitment to integrity, fairness and responsibility
  2. Delivering our very best in all we do, holding ourselves accountable for results.

In 2019 we implemented several new ways of communication.  Not all have come easily for us and we have had some bumps along the way.  Some examples are listed below.

  1. Weekly newsletter
  2.  Instagram Stories
  3.  Facebook Stories
  4. Posted new products on twitter
  5. Text message advertising
  6. Google My Business
  7. Holiday Flash Sales
  8. Facebook Messenger New Product Alerts
  9. Billboards

We have tried to send some interesting information in our weekly emails instead of constantly pushing for sales.  Not sure if we have succeeded with this but it was never our goal to be pushy.   We have only wanted to interact with our customers.

Along with our trying to provide information in a fun and informative way we have also tried to gather input from our current customers on what they wanted to see on the website.   We have set out to accomplish this 2 different ways.

        1.  Survey Monday Email
        2.  Bradley University Case Study

The information we received back has been invaluable and we can’t express enough our thanks to those who completed the survey.   We also want to thank the students at Bradley University for the case study they completed.   We hope to make several more improvements in 2020 as a result from that case study.

In the end we are very thankful for the opportunities that 2019 has brought to us and look forward to see what new things to come in 2020.

How to pick the right lipstick

Lipstick is the first thing that comes to mind when we think about makeup. Adding color to the lips can make a huge difference to the features of your face. A poorly chosen shade of lipstick can easily destroy your whole look. That’s why it’s important to choose a color that suits you.

We at Bright Side are excited to share these 7 tips with you to help you choose the right lipstick shade.

1. Determine your skin tone

The very first step in choosing the right lipstick color is determining what skin tone you have. There are 5 main types of skin complexion: fair, light, medium, tan, and deep.

FAIR OR LIGHT

The lipstick shades that usually look great with fair or light skin are light pink, coral, peach, nude, and dusty red colors.

MEDIUM

Rose, berry, cherry red, and mauve lipstick colors look gorgeous on girls with a medium skin tone.

TAN

Girls with a tan skin tone can totally rock coral, deep pink, bright red, and most other colors except for brown and purple shades.

DEEP

Lipstick shades that suit a deep skin tone best are brown and purple shades like plum, caramel, wine, and blue-based reds.

2. Determine your skin undertone

Knowledge of you skin undertone will definitely help guide you. Basically, there are 3 types of undertones: cool, warm, and neutral.

Cool undertones: fair or light skin — soft mocha or nude; medium skin — pink or cranberry shades; tan or deep skin — ruby or wine shades.

Warm undertones: fair or light skin — pale pink or peachy nudes; medium, tan or deep skin — copper or bronze shades.

Neutral: wide spectrum of colors, both cool and warm tones.

3. Shape of your lips

Top heavy lips: bright lipstick on the bottom of the lips and a slightly darker shade of the same color on the upper lip.

Bottom heavy lips: any color that suits your undertone + a little bit of light nude color right in the center of the upper lip.

Asymmetrical lips: use a lip pencil in a shade similar to the lipstick color to outline the lips.

4. Size of the lips

Thin lips: avoid dark and flashy lipstick colors, they will only make your lips look even thinner. Try applying glosses and creamy lipsticks.

Plump lips: avoid lipstick shades that are too light and glossy, glittery textures.

5. Hair color

Dark hair, fair and light skin: bright pink, scarlet, cherry, and plum colors. Blond hair, fair and light skin: dusty pink, purely pink, light pink, and scarlet colors. Dark hair, tan and deep skin: golden beige, ochre, terracotta, and bronze colors. Blond hair, tan and deep skin: caramel, ochre, warm pinks, and “salmon” pink. Brown hair, medium skin: beige, “salmon” pink, corals, and deep dusty pinks.

Red hair, fair skin: “salmon” pink, corals, terracotta, and burnt sienna.

6. Eye color

Brown eyes: bright reds, browns, and light pinks. Blue eyes: different shades of cherry or scarlet colors.

Green eyes: terracotta, pinks. Grey eyes: nudes and plum colors.

7. Teeth color

White teeth: Congratulations! You can choose whatever color you like.

Yellow teeth: rose, slightly orange, light red colors. Avoid purples, browns, and bright scarlet, red shades.

How to match your makeup to your skin color

www.simpletreasuresforsale.com

1. DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TONE

First things first, you can’t pick the right products for your skin tone (the natural color of your complexion) unless you know what your skin tone actually is.

• If you have a fair skin tone – you’ve probably been described as having porcelain skin a time or two in your life.

• If you have a light skin tone – you’re still pale—just not quite as much as your fair friends.

• If you have a medium skin tone – you’re caught in the middle! Your skin tone isn’t super-dark or super-light but somewhere in between.

• If you have a deep skin tone – your complexion is dark.

2: DETERMINE YOUR UNDERTONE

When it comes to finding makeup that matches your skin, it may come as a surprise that your skin tone isn’t all that matters. Yes, it’s important, but your undertone (the colors that come through your skin and affect its overall hue) play a part in which products will work with your coloring too. Here’s how to assess your undertone:

3: FIND YOUR FOUNDATION MATCH

Now, you’re ready to find a foundation that matches your skin tone and undertone. How easy of an experience that is depends on the products you’re picking from. The L’Oréal Paris True MatchTM Super Blendable Makeup keeps things simple because it’s available in a wide range of shades (33 to be exact) in all three undertones—a.k.a. there’s a color match for just about everyone.

4: CHOOSE A COORDINATING CONCEALER

Despite what you may have heard, your concealer should be as close of a match to your skin as possible—not slightly lighter or darker. To make things easier, stick with a concealer from the same line as your foundation. The L’Oréal Paris True MatchTM Super Blendable Multi-Use Concealer is offered in a range of 14 shades that covers all skin tones and undertones.

5: OPT FOR COLORLESS POWDER

Don’t want to struggle to find another product that matches your skin tone? You don’t have to! Instead of searching for a powder that coordinates with the color of your foundation and concealer, you can use a translucent powder, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Face Powder. The invisible powder can be used to set makeup of any shade!

What are the top fall beauty trends for 2019?

1. Splashes of Makeup on Face

The avant-garde option for the fall/ winter 2019 makeup trends was a little bit creepy and very post-apocalyptic. Models’ faces were splashed with paint in a way that created an otherworldly and intimidating effect.

2. Barely-There Makeup

A no-makeup makeup look is a runway classic, intended to enhance models’ beauty without interfering, and to allow the audience to really focus on the clothes presented. Keeping things simple is perfectly acceptable, according to the fall/ winter 2019 makeup trends.

3. Blushing
This might be the most youthful of the fall/ winter 2019-2020 makeup trends. A touch of pinky blush is the easiest way to liven up the complexion and soften the face, so the runways where it showed up were definitely ones where innocence and purity were part of the aesthetic.

4. Bronzed Goddess

It’s hard to resist a bronzed goddess, especially when everyone else is looking pale and cold, which is why the runways where bronzer was used liberally really stood out to us, even though the rest of the makeup was kept understated.

5. Dewy Skin

The skin can get so dry and dull during winter, when there’s no moisture in the air and cold winds assault our faces. No wonder that designers and makeup artists alike wanted to go in the opposite direction, to show beautifully glow and hydrated skin that won’t get damaged by inclement weather. Notably missing from this trend: shimmery highlighters. This healthy glow is all about moisture.

6. Sparkle and Glitter
It’s fun to use a bit of glitter in your makeup look now and then, but for the fall 2019 makeup looks makeup artists went way above that, opting for lots of glitter rather than a subtle touch.

TOP 10 MAKE UP MISTAKES

Here are the top 10 make up mistakes women frequently make when applying their make up in order to look beautiful whenever they appear in the general public.

1. WAXING GONE WRONG

Most of the times when you wax or pluck your eyebrows, you don’t want to over pluck. It will create an impression when people see you that you are hairier than you really are and that you need to wax constantly.

2. NOT CURLING YOUR EYELASHES

Most people feel this isn’t important. Nothing is really important. But if you actually intend to use mascara for the original purpose and way it was intended to, then buy a lash curler, and curly your eyelashes.

3. BLOTCHY MAKE UP ON A BARE FACE

Another reason why your make up can look blotchy is because human skin is made up of natural oils. Failure to apply blush without applying foundation or powder underneath, don’t expect it to last for more than a few hours.

4. APPLYING MATTLE LIPSTICK WRONGLY

An attempt to apply a mattle lipstick on your lips without moistening your lips first is wrong. It looks bad. Don’t do it.

5. SMOKING

Make up always look better when applied to a healthy face. Smoking while you have makeup on your face tends to dry off faster than coffee, sun or wind.

6. WRONG FOUNDATION

There are so many brands of foundation nowadays all claiming to do amazing things and the end results are very bad.

7. NOT ADAPTING TO YOUR EYE

You not expected to wear the same type of make up when you were 16 years and now that you are 60.

8. ABUSE OF BRIGHT COLOR

Bright colors are always amazing during summer and spring. Always remember that bright colors attract attention.

9. NOT BLENDING

Just as human cells are the blocks and foundation of human life, blending is also the base and foundation of makeup. Ensure you blend your concealer, blush, foundation, eye shadow and setting powders.

10. NOT BLOTTING LIPSTICKS

Failure to blot the center of your lips, either by rubbing off excess with your finger, or gentling biting down on a tissue, then you run the risk of having the lipstick stain your teeth every time you smile wide or attempt to eat something.
